KEY MILESTONE REACHED IN DELIVERY OF £100 MILLION SCARBOROUGH BUSINESS PARK...
15 October 2008
The Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough, Councillor Eileen Vickers, joined Caddick Developments and other local dignitaries yesterday, to commemorate the completion of infrastructure work on Scarborough Business Park, and officially open a new road network on the 83 acre development.
Representatives from Scarborough Borough Council, Yorkshire Forward, and the Government Office for Yorkshire and the Humber also joined the Mayor to open the new road network, which will allow the £100 million park to be built out.
The new development, located immediately adjacent to the A64, off Dunslow Road, is set to create up to 1000 jobs for the borough. When completed the scheme will comprise:
• Over a million square feet of industrial and office accommodation, incorporating both design and build and speculative units
• A 20,000 sq. ft hotel
• 9,325 sq. ft of restaurant space
• 11,000 sq ft of retail space
• 39,500 sq. ft of car showrooms
• Plans also include the provision of a comprehensive landscape scheme and five-year ecological management plan.
Essential infrastructure work completed to date includes the creation of an entire new road network through the site, upgrading of existing road junctions close to the A64, and improvements and upgrades to the off site utilities.
Peter Holley, Director of Caddick Developments, commented; “Yesterday marked a very significant occasion in the development of the Business Park. We have worked in close partnership with Scarborough Borough Council, Yorkshire Forward and Government Office for the Yorkshire and Humber to deliver a scheme that will provide a significant boost to the current commercial offering at Eastfield, and we are delighted to be bringing forward a development that will have such a positive economic impact for the town.
“Accessibility to the park is key, and now that we can offer this, we are experiencing a surge in demand for the new commercial space.”
The development is now progressing at pace and can now offer potential occupiers a range of benefits including flexible building solutions and the next generation of communications, following the installation of the new NYnet 100MB Internet connection, which provides download and surfing speeds over three times faster than those accessible in the biggest cities in Britain.
Leader of Scarborough Borough Council, Tom Fox, commented:
“This really is the celebration of a ‘winner’ for the town and Borough. Its successful completion thus far demonstrates just how the public and private sectors can work well together to deliver a scheme that is ultimately about jobs, more jobs and prosperity. Those involved can be justly proud of their achievements; I say well done to everyone and thank you."
Grant funding for the Business Park has been provided by a combination of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) administered by Government Office for Yorkshire & Humber, Yorkshire Forward, the region’s development agency and Scarborough Borough Council.
John Shepherd, Senior Urban Renaissance Manager for Yorkshire Forward, adds; “Scarborough Business Park is a key element of Yorkshire Forward’s Urban Renaissance programme, launched in 2002 - a partnership between Scarborough Borough Council and other key stakeholders which has delivered a number of strategic projects stimulating many hundreds of millions of pounds of private sector investment in the town.
“With Scarborough recognised as Regional Winner of the government’s 2008 Enterprising Britain competition, with hoped-for national success this Autumn, Scarborough Business Park, with the fastest broad band in Europe, offers a truly world-class business location.“
Alongside the completion of the infrastructure works, Caddick has completed a brand new 25,000 sq ft building for local haulage firm TEF Transport, whilst Gladman Developments has completed a first phase of high quality, speculative office space totalling 53,000sqft. Local firm Raflatac, has also purchased 5 acres to aid the company’s expansion plans.
Caddicks have recently secured detailed planning permission for Scarborough’s first dedicated trade park which will occupy a prime position within the new business park development.
